Health and Safety Policy

Creigiau Travel Ltd is committed to providing a healthy, safe service for our customers. This commitment is evidenced in writing by our Health and Safety Policy Statement, which is examined and reviewed by the Directors on an annual basis.

	Seat Belt Safety Seat belts must be worn at all times. Creigiau Travel complies to the new Department of Transport Seat Belt Regulations.

	First Aid As a pre-requisite all vehicles carry a First Aid Kit. Each kit is sealed so that we know when any items within the kit have been used. It is part of the driver’s daily checks that the kit is in place and sealed. The First Aid Kit is also checked as part of regular preventative maintenance inspections.

	Fire Extinguishers All vehicles must carry a fire extinguisher. Each extinguisher is sealed so that we know if it has been used. It is part of the drivers daily checks to ensure that the extinguisher is in place and sealed. The fire extinguisher is also checked as part of the regular preventative maintenance inspections. The driver will also make passengers aware of fire exits.

	Maintenance of Vehicles The maintenance of our vehicles is of prime importance and as a consequence all vehicle maintenance is contracted out to independent engineers. Vehicle maintenance records are maintained by the Transport Manager. As a precondition of our operators licence vehicles have to undertake preventative maintenance inspections every 6 weeks and these inspections are also carried out by the independent engineers.

	Vehicle Defect Report System The company operates a Nil defect reporting system as recommended by VOSA. Daily reports must be made for each vehicle used by drivers and any defects identified and rectified.

	Safety Pack Each coach is provided with a safety pack to include Hi Visibility Safety Vest and Hazard Warning Triangle.

	Body Spillage Kit Each vehicle is supplied with a Body Fluids Spillage Kit. The contents of these kits are checked on a regular basis.

	Staff On appointment all staff undergo an induction programme. Included within the induction programme:
	Test Drive As part of the interview and induction procedures the prospective members of driving staff will undertake a Test Drive with the Transport Manager. Driving Licence All staff must hold the appropriate driving licence for the class of vehicle to be driven. The licence is checked before the member of staff is appointed. Procedures are in place that the driving licence is checked, copied and signed every 6 months so as to ensure nothing has occurred to make the licence invalid. All driving staff have to undertake regular medicals to hold a PSV licence. The expiry date for these medicals is also checked at the same time as the driving licence review. Criminal Records of Bureau Checks (CRB) It is a requirement that all staff undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check on appointment. CRB checks will be carried out at the enhanced level for all drivers and escorts. Procedures are in place to review CRB checks in staff to ensure that all staff have a CRB check at least every 3 years. Smoking Smoking on board any company vehicles is prohibited by law. Mobile Phones Staff are reminded, regularly about the use of mobile phones whilst driving.
